David Rang

One of our two Marathon runners thanked sponsors after Mass on July 12th. David - Number 22152 - completed the course in four hours eight minutes nine seconds. He raised 620 for the Refugee Council and a similar sum for St Philip Howard Catholic High School. He raised a further contribution from his place of work, taking his sponsorship to 2,400 in all, of which 1,240 came from St Richard's parishioners.

The Refugee Council wrote "We were overwhelmed to receive your generous donation of 620. Without help like yours, we simply wouldn't be able to carry out our vital work with asylum seekers and refugees... Your donation enables us to offer support and care to people desperately needing it - like a hot meal, clean clothing and expert advice.

Perhaps the most important thing you have helped us give asylum seekers is the opportunity to talk through their often terrifying experiences in an atmosphere of safety and support. Our health worker can then provide expert support...

The entire community of St Philip Howard Catholic High School offers its warmest thanks to David Rang and to the parishioners who supported him in his fine Marathon run - for the magnificent sum of 620 which he has now been able to donate to our Building Fund... From the sponsorship money raised by pupils, I am glad to enclose a cheque for 150 payable to the Refugee Council.
