Geoff Breeze reports - photos by Michael Oliver
The fete was held on Saturday 16th August with glorious sunny weather to help ensure the day was very successful.
The event was held on a Saturday instead of the usual Sunday and was much bigger than usual. As well as the usual stalls found every year at the fete there was a Pimms Tent, four piece Brass band; lunches and cream teas. An arena area displayed a childrenís fancy dress competition and a dog show. Another area was allocated to Classic Cars kindly loaned for the day by local village enthusiasts.
The fete was extremely successful - a total of £3,400 was raised which will go towards the purchase of St Peterís own parish minibus, to be used for the transport of children who will start attending school in September. This will help to combat the expense of travelling which discourages some parents from sending their children to St Richard's School and St Philip Howard High School in Barnham.
The plan is to purchase a 17 seat minibus so that anyone with an ordinary licence can drive it. The minibus committee requested that the Pastoral Parish Council (PPC) consider a donation from this yearís fete to help with the purchase and running costs.
The PPC not only agreed to the suggestion but confirmed that the whole of the proceeds of the 2008 fete could be used for this scheme together with a matching amount from parish funds.
As a memento of the day, Susie Lock has prepared a portfolio of photos on dvd available from her on 672997 - no price fixed, just a donation towards the bus fund.
