Fr. Paul's 25th anniversary of his Ordination On Wednesday 7th May the whole Parish came together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our Parish Priest, Fr. Paul's, ordination. St. Richard's church was packed for the Mass concelebrated by 20 priests and assisted by 3 deacons. Unusually for such occasions Fr Paul preached the homily himself rather than this being done by a fellow priest. As Fr Paul explained, he had asked two priests to 'do the honours' but both had been taken ill and were unable to be there. Rather than risk starting an epidemic by asking any other priests Fr. Paul took it on himself. This meant that the congregation didn't get to hear too many embarrassing stories from the seminary or any other places where he has been posted. Many of Fr. Paul's family were at the Mass and his parents brought up the gifts at the offertory. As usual the music was of a very high standard with a combined choir from the three churches served from Chichester.

The Mass was followed by a social in the newly extended school hall at St. Richard's Primary School. A wonderful spread had been prepared including a special cake. Fr. Paul had bravely dug out some of the pictures from his time at the seminary and his ordination. Several people were heard to say that there must have been some mistake in the dates as they thought Fr Paul looked no older than 15 in some of the pictures. During the presentation of gifts to mark the occasion Fr Paul's mother took the microphone and expressed her pride in what each of her children had done as their chosen vocation. She recalled the present she had given to Fr. Paul on his ordination, rather unusually, a football signed by team members of Brighton and Hove Albion football club. She had tried to repeat this for his 25th anniversary but as the team no longer do this she said he would have to be content with a team photograph instead.

The whole Parish sends Fr Paul its warmest congratulations on his silver jubilee.
