With warm memories of our young people seeing the Pope for World Youth Day, 2008 - planning for this year's Event was given a big lift as Margaret Dascalopoulis reports:
"Lavant Memorial Hall took on a Spanish air on Friday, 25th Feb when over 120 parishioners and friends of all ages enjoyed the delights of the Mardi Gras style fund raiser for World Youth Day which will take place in Madrid this coming August.
The hall was transformed with lights and balloons in red, black, yellow and blue to reflect the colours of Spain and the diocese, and the tables were decked in bright primary colours to complete the festive feel.
The evening commenced with a complimentary glass of sangria and the kitchen volunteers produced plate upon plate of delicious tapas with chorizo, peppers, olives, sun dried tomatoes and manchego cheese complemented by Maria's specially created Spanish tartlets.
The bar was busy all night. - The lizard lounge buzzed with conversation.
The dance floor rocked to an eclectic mix of music, courtesy of Jamie McGreal and the enthusiasm of the crowd.
All in all, a good time was had by all and we raised just under £1200 in addition to the single donation of £1000 received a few weeks ago."

A huge thank you to all those involved. Those who came on the night, those who generously donated when they could not attend, those who helped on the night: in the bar, in the kitchen, on the door and clearing up. An extra special thanks to Maria Whitehouse who was there all the way.
