The Church of the Sacred Heart at Petworth is now the Parish in Father Peterís care, but Chichester remains his family home. His farewell mass saw St Richardís packed out.
The concelebration with Father Kieron included Father Thomas Swaffer, O.Praem., now working with us and resident at the Presbytery.
Gifts were presented Ė the rosary, the treasured book and a cheque from grateful parishioners at St Richards. Father Peter made his thanks to Fr Kieron for a harmonious working relationship ever since both were new to St Richards.
St Peterís at the Witterings contributed a splendid standard lamp.
The parish flocked to St Richardís School hall, where Penny Finn, Mick and Ziggi led the hospitality team from the social committee.
The party, as always, had a decorated cake. (But Fr Peter noted that the chocolate buttons had not been sampled by the young.)
Father Peter, with Cathy, Father Kieron and Father Thomas posed for Juliaís camera. A joyful group of family and colleagues.
Father Peter will live in Chichester and carry out some duties here. He qualified as a barrister and after ordination was originally a minister in the Church of England, based at Bognor. His conversion and ministry at St Richards has been a source of inspiration and hope that the ecumenical movement will bring Christians more firmly together, respecting the different traditions of our churches.
Father Thomas, distinctive in his white habit, was introduced to the warmth of a celebration at St Richardís and he looks forward to his work with our community.
