Father Kieron writes: "From the first weekend in September, in union with the whole Catholic Church in these islands, we will begin to use the New Translation of the Roman Missal in English.
This is the fruit of many years of work across the English-speaking world – and it has not been devoid of some controversy! However, now we have it and our liturgy groups in the parishes have been putting much thought into how best we can use this opportunity to re-vitalize our celebration of mass. During the autumn there will be group sessions designed to deepen our understanding of the Liturgy and on 26th September we will have an evening with a visiting expert to look at some of the new musical settings which are becoming available. In the meantime we hope that some of the resources listed below will be helpful during this transitional phase.
The Order of Mass is the body of texts that are used at every Mass and includes all the people’s responses.
The full text, including the collects, is to be used from Advent 2011.
Various resources to explain the New Translation and assist its introduction have been produced by organisations including the International Commission on English in the Liturgy, the Liturgy Office of England and Wales and the American National Association of Pastoral Musicians. Links to their websites can be found below.
A copy of the ICEL DVD Become One Body, One Spirit in Christ is available to borrow from the Parish Office.
Note: this DVD can only be used with a computer, not a TV/DVD player.
