Bosham's Bring and Buy Sale - a record boost for Mivumoni.
Parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption gave the new organisers of the Bring and Buy Sale enthusiastic support. Niall and Finola Brennan had a good range of quality gifts donated for their traditional English stalls. "We welcomed more than 200 visitors. They included friends from Holy Trinity, other Bosham churches and from all over the county".
Niall and Finola volunteered to take over from Kate and Stephen Philips who had pioneered the event and remained in support on the day. The stalls offered a tombola, cakes, drinks, bric a brac, toys, a silent auction, books, plants ("very successful" Niall comments), home-made preserves, clothes and a raffle. Niall thanks all the helpers - and noted that the cake stall was run by Kieran Strudwick, a Year 7 pupil in Philip Howard, who baked some as well as selling the cakes!
The team of helpers saw the total mount up to more than £2,200 - a big increase since 2004. Niall and Finola were delighted. The raffle benefited from tickets sold all over the area, and 18 prizes (all donated) were awarded - yielding an excellent return of more than £650, with the top prizes going to Bognor Regis, Chichester and Bosham.
Fr Kieron's photos of his recent visit to Mivumoni view here underlined the importance of this sale to Fr Joe's epilepsy clinic and his hard pressed rural parish.
Niall says the success of the sale owed much to the generosity of corporate donors: The Millstream Hotel, Chichester Bed Centre, The Berkley Arms, FURN Furniture Store, The Anchor Bleu, Boots of Chichester, Hilliers Garden Centre, Arthur Purchase Wine Merchants, Saulet & Co Solicitors, Westgate Leisure Centre, Micro Scooters Ltd, C & H Fabrics of Chichester, Sainsbury’s and the Co-Op Store of Bosham.
A message to Fr Joe who visited Chichester in September 2006, from Fr Kieron and the people of Bosham.
"We are delighted to send you the proceeds of the 2006 Bosham Bring and Buy Sale. Through the efforts of many people from the community of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Richard's parish, no less than £2235 was raised. This will, I know from my visit to you this summer, help you to purchase a new four-wheel-drive vehicle for your up country work in your widespread parish. We hope our links will strengthen - including those forged between your school and St Richard's school here. We were delighted to welcome you to Bosham and Chichester in Septemberand look forward to hearing of progress in Mivumoni."
